The Cart Group has passed an unannounced international audit, conducted by SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance), within the scope of the FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification) certification, one of the most recognized food safety management benchmarks in the world. Carried out between October 5 and 9, 2026, the assessment consolidated the certification of the 17 factories of the Cart Industrial Complex, in the province of Benguela, which occupies about 470 thousand square meters.

The surprise nature of the evaluation gives particular weight to the result. Unannounced, two SGS auditors spent five days, out of a total of 10 auditor days, examining the industrial units, quality control procedures and management systems. Unlike scheduled audits, this format verifies the effective application of the rules under normal operating conditions: what is evaluated is the daily routine, not the preparation for a visit. The result proves that the Angolan industry is capable of producing food according to international standards, with direct gains for public health and consumer confidence in national products.

An unannounced assessment, conducted by SGS, has confirmed the compliance of the food safety systems of the Cart Industrial Complex and underpins the Group’s ambition to lead Africa’s transformation through agribusiness from an Angolan industry to international standards.

The audit covered the production processes of the 17 manufacturing units: Production and packaging of wheat and corn flour; Processing and packaging of rice; Packaging of beans and sugar; cereals and food mixtures; biscuits, biscuits, dumplings, pasta and instant pasta; refining and packaging of vegetable oils; margarine and vegetable fat; condensed milk; spicy sauces; sweets, sambapitos and chewing gum; and cutting and packaging of beef and pork.

The Human Resources, Quality Assurance and Control, Maintenance, Purchasing, Commercial, Research and Development and Logistics departments were also evaluated. This scope reflects an essential principle: food safety is not decided only on the production line, but in a coordinated system of prevention, monitoring and control that goes from the selection of raw materials to the storage and distribution of products.

Recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), FSSC 22000 combines the ISO 22000 standard with specific prerequisite programs and additional requirements. In practice, it requires the control of physical, chemical and biological hazards, the guarantee of product traceability, the

For Angolan families, this means an additional guarantee: food produced with lower risk and greater reliability.

SGS, a Swiss multinational founded in 1878, is a world reference in testing, inspection and certification. The evaluation by an independent entity of this caliber reinforces the credibility of the result and the commitment of the Cart Group to transparency and globally recognized technical requirements.

The consolidation of the certification is part of the Cart Group’s 2024–2030 Strategic Plan and the vision that guides it: to be the leading company in the transformation of Africa through agribusiness. To get there, the Group’s mission is to develop an ecosystem that promotes the creation of the model producer, with a sense of social and environmental responsibility, based on the vertical integration of the value chain: from origination and agricultural production to industrial transformation, logistics, distribution and marketing.

In this context, certification has strategic value. Anyone who aspires to lead the agricultural transformation of the continent must demonstrate that what they produce meets the benchmarks required by the most rigorous markets. FSSC 22000 is such a demonstration: it reinforces the competitiveness of products manufactured in Angola, paves the way for markets that require certification recognized by the GFSI and contributes to the diversification of the economy and the development of the manufacturing industry.

The result reflects the joint work of the teams of the 17 factories and the support departments, as well as the continuous investment in employee training, the modernization of processes and internal control mechanisms. For Grupo Cart, food safety is a permanent responsibility towards consumers and a pillar of its growth strategy.

At a time when Angola seeks to strengthen its productive capacity and reduce external dependence on essential goods, this milestone shows that Africa’s transformation through agribusiness begins at home: in an Angolan industry capable of putting safe, quality food made in the country on the table of families.
