IMF Managing Director visits Angola, meets with the private business sector with the presence of Nelson Cart, CEO of Grupo Cart

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva concluded her first visit to Angola, where she met with President João Lourenço, his economic team, private sector leaders, students and startup founders.

She highlighted three main conclusions:

1. Angola has made significant progress since 2017 in reforming its economy and reducing dependence on oil. This reform push should continue to promote private sector-led growth.

2. The country can unlock more potential by improving access to capital and directing public spending to where it has the greatest impact. Everyone here is thinking about the process of eliminating harmful subsidies, energy subsidies, and how best to do that to protect vulnerable people.

3. Young people are Angola’s greatest asset. The country’s youth are dynamic and highly motivated to build the nation’s future.

Thank you, Angola!
