More than 200 students from the Chacal School, in the Urban District of Morro dos Veados (Municipality of Talatona), received prescription glasses free of charge, as part of the “See to Learn” (VEPA) project, in a ceremony held this Wednesday at 10 am.

The initiative, which promotes visual health in socially vulnerable communities, is the result of a partnership between Grupo Carrinho, the optical clinic Olhos nos Olhos (ONO), the Africell Impact Foundation and the local administration of Morro dos Veados. The aim is to diagnose eye problems in school-age children early and ensure free access to specialised care.
During the first phase of the project, about 980 students were screened, of whom 278 showed visual changes, including 64 cases with suspected glaucoma. After clinical follow-up, students diagnosed with the need for visual correction received glasses with prescription lenses, contributing significantly to their well-being and school performance.
The project represented an investment of more than 30 million Kwanzas, including screenings, optometry and ophthalmology consultations, complementary exams, in addition to the offer of frames and prescription lenses for both students and teachers.
